Since this is my inaugural blog, I thought I would start small. So what's up with the world
lately? As Johnny Brovo would say it just keeps getting weirder and weirder. Now if you
know me, you know I love conspiracy theories, but gee whiz it's getting serious.
Start with the international; there is terrorism, the war in Iraq, Iran and there's
Ahmadinejad, who is waiting for the 12th Imam, bombs in New York, Spain, Bali, London and
who can keep track of where else. There is Darfur, Lebanon, the Philippines, Afghanistan,
talk about your wars and rumors of wars.
Then there is the economic, the Dow hit a record a week or so ago, and this last week it fell
500 points. The dollar slowly declines against the Euro and the pound. And China seems
about to become the world's economic superpower. Now that would be a switch! And in our
own country there grows a debt so huge that the figure is nearly incomprehensible by
intelligent people, much less congressmen.
Then there are the people, (here I can only speak of those in my community, I suspect it is
no different in your community), people are just becoming cruder, crasser, and greedier.
(Sometimes I try and figure when this began, i.e. did it start with TV, or the pill, or hippies, or
Vatican 2, or all the above). Expletives once reserved for your slimiest, low down,
underhanded enemy, are now routinely hurled at children by their parents. Tattoos the once
proud hallmark of sailors and bikers, are now found on young mothers, how lovely. Let's see
piercings, tongue rings, breast augmentation, lip augmentation, black fingernails, and Botox,
and they say we are a shallow society. Now I will be the first to admit there many sports I do
not follow, but as the casual observer it does seem our athletes at the best are ruffians, and
usually much worse. I am sure there are still wholesome athletes in the spirit of past, but they
most certainly are over shadowed by the grasping, gluttonous, egotistical thugs. Our stars
are little better, when they are not going to jail for breaking laws they feel too important to
obey, they are cussing their children out over the phone. These are the same folks who feel
that fame and money equal wisdom, and therefore they know best how we should lead our
lives. Well you get the picture. Peggy Noonan had an article that seems apropos.
How about spiritual? I am not going Mayan on you (you know December 12 in 2012, that is
when their calendar ends). Although I am fascinated by St. Malachy's predictions, and I am a
bit concerned about Europe's humanism which seems as if it will give way to Islam. ( If you
have not discerned by now I am Christian).
So what do we do? Well I am not calling for the end of the world, it will come in its own good
time, global warming notwithstanding, no one has a clue. I guess just pray and lead a good
life. Be a good example to your kids and friends. Don't complain too much and be happy.
